Searching for Hydrangeas + Frugal Mommas Linky

Oak Leaf Hydrangea | The Chelsea Project |

Hello Friends,

How are your hydrangeas doing this year? Do you have some in bloom right now?

For me, there’s sad news. We had a late frost in March that killed every single bud on my bushes. It’s the saddest thing ever, so I’ve tried to gather photos when I find a particularly beautiful bloomer.

The photos here are from an Oak Leaf Hydrangea that I snapped while on a recent trip to Louisville, Kentucky. It was situated in the perfect combination of sun and shade.

If you have some hydrangea photos to share, I’d LOVE to add them to my photo library. Please upload them to the email address for the blog ( Make sure to include the photo credit and a statement giving me permission to share them out on social media. Let’s see how these lovelies are doing across the nation.

Here in the far north my one and only hydrangea is just starting to get tiny little buds. This will be it’s third summer so I’m hoping it gets abundant flowers this year (finger’s crossed). Thanks for the party Susie and have an awesome week!

my oldest hydrangea has been in the ground for five years. and after three consecutive years of one. bloom. only. (always in the same place), this year, i have 21 blooms coming so far. how does this happen? virtually no blooms for three or four years, then 21 and counting … –suz in NE ohio (it must have been the mild winter we had, the mildest in my memory, and i’m over 60)

      Hi Suz,
I do know that hydrangeas love mild winters. My bushes are small, but were filled with buds, too. After the frost, all of the buds were brown. But I do hope this year is the first of many years where your bush has 21+ blooms. Wowzers. That sounds like hydrangea heaven. Thanks so much for stopping by. It’s a treat to hear about your journey.
